Our verdict
What it does well, and what it doesn't
Pros
- Almost everyone in India already has WhatsApp, so joining takes seconds.
- An announcement group where admins post and members can reply or react.
- Events with RSVPs (including +1 guests) and reminders, launched in 2024.
- Polls, chat and calls in the same place people already talk.
- Admins can approve new participants before they join.
Cons
- No ticketing or payments, so collecting fees means a separate tool or manual transfers.
- No public discovery: new members only arrive by invite link or word of mouth.
- No venue booking, attendance analytics or booking funnel.
- Each group holds up to 1,024 members.
- No member-list export; Export chat only produces a text file of messages.
WhatsApp Communities pricing
- Free for admins and members.
- No built-in ticketing or payments for organizers, so paid sessions are collected outside WhatsApp.

Who it's for
WhatsApp Communities is a good fit for
- Small, free groups of friends, neighbours or regulars.
- Clubs that mainly need announcements, polls and RSVPs.
- Organizers whose members won't use another app.

Questions
No. WhatsApp doesn't offer a member-list export. The only built-in export is Export chat (open the chat, tap More options, then More, then Export chat), which saves messages as a text file, with or without media, and can't be re-imported into another tool. To move members, share a join link and ask them to sign up themselves.
A WhatsApp group can hold up to 1,024 members. A Community groups several related groups together under one announcement channel.
For clubs and communities in India that charge for sessions, Hiive adds ticketing with payouts in rupees, curated entry, venue schedules, campaigns and local discovery, while keeping event and community chat. For free groups that mainly need scheduling, Heylo and Spond are other options.
