Hiive vs WhatsApp Communities: which fits how you run?
WhatsApp Communities bring related WhatsApp groups together under one announcement channel. Admins post updates to everyone, members chat in the groups, and Events let people RSVP and get reminders. Here’s how it compares with Hiive for organizers, venues and communities — including where WhatsApp Communities is the better choice.

About WhatsApp Communities
Pricing
As of October 2026
- Free for admins and members.
- No built-in ticketing or payments for organizers, so paid sessions are collected outside WhatsApp.
In India

Best for
Free, familiar coordination for groups whose members already use WhatsApp
Where Hiive isn't the best fit
- Hiive is newer than most tools it's compared with. Its event and community coverage is deepest in Mumbai, where it launched, and is growing city by city.
- Business pricing isn't a public rate card: the software is free for the first couple of months, then a fee is agreed with each partner based on the value delivered.
- Businesses join through an application, so setup is guided rather than instant self-serve.

- 01

Questions
No. WhatsApp doesn't offer a member-list export. The only built-in export is Export chat (open the chat, tap More options, then More, then Export chat), which saves messages as a text file, with or without media, and can't be re-imported into another tool. To move members, share a join link and ask them to sign up themselves.
A WhatsApp group can hold up to 1,024 members. A Community groups several related groups together under one announcement channel.
For clubs and communities in India that charge for sessions, Hiive adds ticketing with payouts in rupees, curated entry, venue schedules, campaigns and local discovery, while keeping event and community chat. For free groups that mainly need scheduling, Heylo and Spond are other options.
WhatsApp Communities are hard to beat for free, informal coordination when every member is already on WhatsApp and nothing needs to be paid for. Hiive suits communities that have outgrown chat threads: paid sessions with payouts in ₹, curated entry, venue schedules, campaigns and booking analytics, with events surfacing to new people locally in the Hiive app.
The Hiive software is free for the first couple of months while your business is set up and runs real activity. After that, Hiive and the partner agree a fee based on the value Hiive has added. There is no fixed public rate.
