Hiive vs Strava: which fits how you run?
Strava is a GPS activity-tracking app for runners, cyclists and other athletes. Clubs are free groups inside Strava where organizers post announcements, run weekly leaderboards, chat in Club Messages and create Club Events with RSVPs. Here’s how it compares with Hiive for organizers, venues and communities — including where Strava is the better choice.

About Strava
Pricing
As of October 2026
- Clubs: free to create and manage (a club must be created on desktop).
- Strava's paid subscription covers analytics features for individual athletes; it isn't needed to run a club.
- Strava doesn't offer ticketing or payments for club events.

Best for
Run and ride clubs whose members already track every activity on Strava
Where Hiive isn't the best fit
- Hiive is newer than most tools it's compared with. Its event and community coverage is deepest in Mumbai, where it launched, and is growing city by city.
- Business pricing isn't a public rate card: the software is free for the first couple of months, then a fee is agreed with each partner based on the value delivered.
- Businesses join through an application, so setup is guided rather than instant self-serve.

Questions
Yes. Creating and managing a Strava club is free, though a club must be created on desktop. Strava's paid subscription covers analytics features for individual athletes and isn't needed to run a club (as of October 2026).
No. Strava has no native club member export. The API's List Club Members endpoint returns summary data only and is governed by restrictive API terms, so the practical option is to announce your new home in the club and let members opt in.
No. Strava doesn't offer ticketing or payments for club events. Clubs that charge for sessions use a separate tool — Hiive, for example, sells tickets with payouts in rupees and also tracks runs, rides and walks.
Strava is the better choice if your club is free, your members already track every run or ride on it, and weekly leaderboards are part of the fun. Hiive suits clubs that are becoming something more — charging for some sessions, partnering with venues, curating who joins and running campaigns — while still tracking runs, rides and walks in the same app.
The Hiive software is free for the first couple of months while your business is set up and runs real activity. After that, Hiive and the partner agree a fee based on the value Hiive has added. There is no fixed public rate.
Try Hiive with your real events. Free for the first couple of months.
